About the event

A victory for freedom anywhere is a cause for celebration everywhere.  Juneteenth is also known as Jubilation Day, Freedom Day, and Emancipation Day and has been celebrated in various states since 1865 recognizing celebrates the liberation of enslaved people from Texas, who were thought to be the last people to be freed by Union soldiers after the American Civil War.

On June 19, 2021, Juneteenth was finally recognized as a national holiday and we look forward to celebrating with you.

Please join us for a performance by the Black Storytellers League of Rochester and First Inversion Choir, with our special guest, local legend Herb Smith as our keynote speaker.

Explore the Community Art, Poetry, and Essay Exhibition.  The theme is JUNETEENTH IS FOR EVERYONE.  And please feel free to contribute your works of art!

Come early and join the historic walking tour.  More details can be found on their event pages.

But most of all, just come and celebrate with us.
